Oedipus Complex

The Oedipus Complex, as described by Freud, is an unhealthy sexual obsession and/or relationship between a son and his mother.

This is a skewed interpretation of the epic play Oedipus Rex, wherein the character Oedipus loves the woman Jocasta, and only later realizes that she is his mother and proceeds to gouge his eyes out with her brooch pins.
